Oxford as a Tourist

Day 13, Tuesday, July 29.

7.16 Miles. 17,213 Steps. 3 Hours.

Coach and Horse, Oxford to Brewery Tap, Abingdon.

Breakfast of poached eggs on English muffins with Asparagus and mushrooms. Interesting.

Made decision to not hike as yesterday had been quite tough. Everyone needed a break. Became an explorer of the ancient city of Knowledge and Learning.

Graduates coming out.

Evelyn is the student outlined in first row.

Library assistant carrying out old books for removal/storage as work was being done on the building.

Streets would be challenging if wearing pointy heels.

Lots of caps and gowns proudly worn today!

I had spoken to this guard at Christ Church earlier in the day, at another entrance, he was helpful and gave me a map. Later when I saw him at the opposite side he remembered me and we talked again about what I had seen.

Museum of Oxford

Bridge of Sighs.

Watched this Japanese woman near the Bridge of Sighs and repeatedly take her selfie.

Large family from India (8) arrived for the graduation of one of their own. They kept trying to take photos of various groups of relatives. I was sitting on the next bench and watching it all happening. Finally I got up and offered to take the photo, and in typical Lois fashion began to suggest where they should stand. Wish I had a copy of the lovely family group.

Foot was very sore. Went into Mountain Warehouse, came out with new hiking boots. We shall see it they help or add more hindrance.

Found Boots the major pharmacy chain. Left with packet of ibuprofen tablets and tube of ibuprofen gel (the kind not available in the US).

Found a phone supply store. Left with a UK 3 prong charger that has space for 2 USB connections. What I brought from home was having issues.

Local bus to Abingdon. Located tonight’s pillow - above the Brewery Tap. The breakfast is in a little alcove in the hall. Coffee machine, little refrigerator with milk/juice/yogurt/fruit/bread for toasting. It was suggested more might be added. When I depart in the morning just leave the key in my door and let myself out through garden patio as there will be no one around. A bit strange.

Brewery Tap - pillow for tonight.
